Aluminium Glazing Project – Case Study
Blackpool Business Enterprise Centre

LDG Contracts has completed a challenging aluminium glazing project for a prestigious new Business Enterprise Centre in Blackpool.

The new Business Enterprise Centre is located on one of the main arterial routes leading into the busy promenade area in Blackpool and is visible to thousands of commuters, day trippers and holiday makers every day.

The prestigious site was used for many years as a public swimming pool and also contained retail units but changing customer and business needs made the existing utilisation less viable. These buildings have now been demolished to make way for the new build project and The Business Enterprise Centre will now accommodate local businesses and will be an important addition to the local economy. The £2.8M contract has been commissioned by Blackpool Council and its innovative design and features will be a credit to the busy seaside resort.

Working directly for the Main Contractor, Parkinson’s Building Contractors, LDG Contracts were responsible for the manufacture and installation of the specialist high performance structurally faceted screens; curtain walling, tilt and turn windows and doors. This stunning new building incorporates many of the different specialised products that LDG contracts manufacture and install on a regular basis for similar commercial projects through the North West of England and beyond.

“We are proud to be associated with this kind of commercial contract and to be working directly with Parkinson’s Building Contractors” states Bill Forsyth, managing director. “This is another example of LDG working closely with Architects and main contractors to ensure we understand and deliver their objectives” continues Bill. Vivienne Brunskill, joint managing director said “Our growing portfolio demonstrates our ability to deliver a range of solutions, both retail and commercial, and enables our customers to have confidence in LDG and the project. Contracts of this kind are now a large part of our business and there is an ever increasing demand for these specialised products. We continue to concentrate on quality and training in order to achieve such high standards in the commercial industry and to produce a wide range of both aluminium and uPVC products”.

Both Bill and Vivienne are keen to praise the whole team, “LDG Contracts could not have achieved the high standard of finish if it were not for the expertise and professional attitude of the staff we have working for us”.

Curtain Walling Case Study
Avenham Pavillions, Preston

In February 2005 we were delighted to become involved in a prestigious project in Preston which resulted in the architects winning a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) award to design a new pavilion for Avenham Park.

The project was funded through the Heritage Lottery scheme and comprises a classroom, café, toilet facilities, ranger’s base and a performance space.

It was a very exciting project for us to embark upon as we designed our bespoke aluminium curtain walling system to combine with the timber system designed by the main contractor, John Turners and Sons Ltd, to create a beautiful and natural looking timber aluminium hybrid system.

We worked tirelessly on the complicated design to ensure we provided the client with a fist class product at the cutting edge of design. This hard work paid off and the results are breathtaking.

This project was just one in a long line of contracts in which we have worked with John Turners and Sons Ltd securing a long lasting and strong working relationship between the two companies.

Edward Street – Stockport

About

A new office building with underground car parking is being constructed on a site of a former car showroom and vacant industrial premises to form the new headquarters for Stockport Homes.

The car showroom is locally listed and is also located within a Conservation Area, so justifying the loss of the building was critical to building the case for development.  Balanced against the loss of the building are the significant benefits associated with the scheme coming forward which include employment opportunities, the creation of a ‘Civic Quarter’ within Stockport Town Centre and the enhancement of the A6 Corridor.

During the summer Stockport Homes will be moving to their new head office on Edward Street. The new office will mean that all the teams will be based in one building working closely together to deliver excellent services for customers. The reception area will offer great facilities for visitors, including access to computer equipment, web access and a coffee shop.

The new headquarters is being built by Eric Wright Construction which LDG Contracts are proudly working alongside to install 16 Curtain wall screens, 132 Aluminium windows and Aluminium doors on this well-established superstructure.
