Project Description

Client: Hamptons by Hilton
Project
: Hamptons by Hilton – Blackpool
Main Contractor: Create Construction
Project Value: £375K
Date Completed: June 2018

About

LDG Contracts were the preferred Sub Contractor for Create Construction for the Hampton by Hilton contract. It was the construction of a new build hotel including 130 guest rooms, gym and restaurant on the sea front at Blackpool.

The job consisted of 16no Seniors SPW 500 Aluminium Doors, 96no Technal FY65 Aluminium Windows and 59no Technal MX Curtain Walls. The installation lasted for 6 months with us keeping a constant labour force of 4 men on site. Our Contract Manager and supervisors worked closely with Creates site team and other sub-contractors to discuss problems such as access to install/glaze the frames.

Both the windows and the curtain walls were externally glazed meaning glass had to either be loaded onto the scaffold and passed round or taken inside the building and passed through the window openings. Other issues involved the temporary glazing with polycarb of large amounts of the ground floor curtain walls , to allow follow on trades to continue with their works internally whilst we waited for the scaffold to be dropped, to allow our machine entry to glaze the 2m x 2m curtain wall glass.

Our installers at the request of Create, were asked to fit an epdm membrane around the entirety of the 2nd floor to stop water ingress to the rest of the building, whilst the external façade and roof installation was completed. The design/installation team worked hard to ensure that the 3rd floor curtain walls followed the facet of the external brickwork on the front of the building, with the drawings and set out of the curtain walls having different degrees at certain points, to ensure the screens mirrored the curve of the brickwork above and below. The contract handed over mid-May and was presented to the client snag free for LDG Contracts.
